A painting of Yawning Cat over green hills under a deep blue sky

YawningCat

I started this one on a Tuesday. The moon has moved, the hills have not, and I am nowhere near finished.

Three nights it kept going

Painting: the crescent moon sitting inside the yawn
01

Got the moon in it

Held it for about nine seconds. Nobody was awake to see and I am not doing it again on request.

Painting: a bus shelter on the hills at dawn behind the yawn
02

The five o'clock stop

One man waits here every morning. He has never once looked up. I respect that more than he knows.

Painting: a small house with a lit window on the hills
03

The lit window

Somebody in there is also still up. We have never spoken. It is the closest thing I have to company.

Things people ask mid yawn

Both, and neither is anybody's business. The mouth opens on its own and I go along with it.

It is not. It is also at two in the afternoon, in a car, and during things I was invited to.

Nothing has ended yet. The hills were here first and they are showing no sign either.

No. It is one size. That is the entire personality and I have made peace with it.

soon

Painting: the same yawn under a bright day sky
same yawn, different sky

Five more minutes and I will get up.
